Jennifer Lopez’s Award at Savannah Film Festival Quietly Canceled Following Kiss of the Spider Woman Flop

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Jennifer Lopez was scheduled to attend the Savannah Film Festival to receive the Virtuoso Award and host a special screening of her latest film, Kiss of the Spider Woman. However, both the award presentation and the film’s screening have been quietly canceled without explanation.

Directed by Bill Condon, Kiss of the Spider Woman premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was later released theatrically by Roadside Attractions. Produced on a $35 million budget, the film grossed just around $1 million in its opening weekend — averaging roughly $760 per theater.

This year’s Savannah Film Festival will host guests including Sydney Sweeney, Spike Lee, Oscar Isaac, and Regina Hall, among others. One of the few remaining hopes for Lopez and her latest project lies in a potential Golden Globe nomination for Best Comedy or Musical. Such recognition could help revive the film’s box-office performance and regain some of its lost momentum.

The story follows a gay prisoner named Molina in 1980s Argentina, during the years of the “Dirty War,” who escapes his harsh reality by imagining films starring an actress named Ingrid Luna — portrayed by Jennifer Lopez.

At Sundance, Lopez said: “I’ve been waiting for this moment my whole life. The reason I wanted to do this was because my mother used to sit me in front of the TV every year to watch West Side Story. I was mesmerized and thought, ‘I want to do that.’ This is really the first time I’ve been able to. This man made my dream come true.”
